Well in unexpected events inspiration is good as a form of video, article or conversation. We all know life is complicated but truly sometimes it takes a global pandemic to understand how lucky we are.
I have dance ballet for over twenty seven years and who knows me, is aware that it have not been easy.. but the past two years have been quite challenging no just because of isolation but because of the limitation on training and missed opportunities due to cancellations and a hold on my career.
I moved away from Spain in 2014 and promise my self.. as always that I will never give up on my dreams and will work as hard as I could to make it happen.
After many tables cleaned, coffee made and patience, YES I MADE IT.... I got my contract with Les Ballets Trockadero de Montecarlo, my dream since I was 12. Since then it have been a challenge because on top of being part of this major company I am an adult who also has a life outside the studio, something I didn't had before.
Honestly when I joined I thought i will be in the back of the room for at least a year before I was giving a chance to show what I am about. but for my surprise it wasn't like that, right at the beggining I found myself dancing corp and soloist roles because one thing that amaze me about the trocks is that we have no ranks so anybody can do anything and is amazing because I have had opportunities not in a million years I thought i will have. Obviusly working for a small scale ballet company when it comes to members has its challenges.. such as casting, rehearsal intensity, etc.. but ofcourse we do it because is our passion and those issues go to a second place.
At the trocks you got no time to sit on glory basically because in only one show you can be a principal ballerina on first act, switch to a man role in the second act and become a corp in the third act almost every day; it is definetely a surprise when you have the luxury of having an act off. One of the principals of been part of Trockadero is to be reliable and is plenty of opportunities to do so.
Many times we found ourselfs rehearsing a complete new cast for a ballet one hour before curtain because someone got injured or in today times.. someone got tested positive for covid. What brings me to the reason of why did i start this article on the first place.
As some of you that follow the company will know that unfortunately our Joyce season has been cut short because of a covid outbreak within the members of the company and unlucky me I am included.. which it has taught me two things. first is to enjoy every day I get to be on stage like it was the last one because it can truly be and second that this virus is totally out of control; I have thankfully survive the entire pandemic in New York not getting sick or even a positive test.. is unfortunate that all of this has happen when my debut as a lead ballerina was about to start but.. oh well.. I can absolutely say that I did everything in my power to be safe even cancelling my 30's birthday celebration. It is fustrating to have worked on it extremely hard and no to have the chance to show it and even more in New York City where friends, boyfriend and other people I appreciate in the industry where gonna come so I was gonna be able to celebrate our comeback to the stage through the big door. As the title on this article CIRCLES IN LIFE OF ACHIEVEMENTS... that's exactly the purpose of this little piece of my experience, I know I might have lost this chance but many more will come and as always i will never give up. We will have a little break to regroup after this situation and will be back in January stronger than ever, starting with a Photoshoot to get new headshots which is always something amazing to look forward to.
IN RESUME.. NEVER GIVE UP, ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD AND ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL OF THE THINGS YOU ACTUALLY HAVE IN THE PRESENT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU IN A SPLIT SECOND. LOVE YOU ALL.
XOXO KEVIN GARCIA .
